This is a wiki page for Education special-interest area. Currently, Education Area Editor is TBD and we need a volunteer. Educational Uses of CRAWDAD ResourcesIf anyone is using any CRAWDAD data sets in their classes or for other educational purposes, we'd love to hear about it! Here is a list of actual educational uses we know about. Mark Hansen's course in University of California Los Angeles We had an excellent talk by Mark Hansen at the CRAWDAD workshop. He uses CRAWDAD data in his graduate course on statistics. Here are the workshop slides and the course web site. Max Welling's course in University of California Irvine Professor Welling used CRAWDAD data for a student project in his Machine Learning class in Fall 2006. The data consists of a sequence of the number of users being connected to each AP during the fixed time interval (e.g., 30 minutes). Given a partial data set (e.g., a sequence only for the morning), students are expected to predict the remaining data set (e.g., a sequence for the afternoon). Students are allowed to use any machine learning techniques, such as Bayes classifier and clustering. The data was derived from dartmouth/campus/syslog traceset by Rex Chen (a grad student at UCI). You can download two files (CRAWDAD id/password required) - partial dataset and original dataset (solution of the project) with kind permission of Professor Welling. We appreciate Professor Welling and Rex Chen for their willingness to share their data and experience with an educational use of CRAWDAD resources! |
